VFW Post 6073 Doubles Down on Day of Service with Two Successful EventsSCOTTSBORO, AL, May 4, 2024 — VFW Post 6073 made a significant impact in the community this weekend by hosting not one, but two successful events as part of their commitment to service. On Friday, May 3, 2024, Veterans Helping Veterans (VHV) successfully built a wheelchair ramp for Johnson Lindsey, a 92-year-old Air Force veteran, at Riverchase Mobile Home Park. The project, which involved the construction of a 50-foot ramp with 20 posts, was a testament to the spirit of service and camaraderie among veterans. Twenty volunteer veterans participated in the build, demonstrating the theme of "Veterans Helping Veterans.”
"Our Auxiliary donated a post hole digger, which was instrumental in the construction of the ramp,” said VHV Program Manager, Jim Blackburn. The ramp has provided much-needed accessibility for Mr. Lindsey, who moved from Ft Payne the following week after the delivery of his hospital bed. His son, Jason, had requested the ramp to ensure his father’s comfort and mobility in his new home.
The following day, on Saturday, May 4th, VFW Post 6073 hosted a blood drive in partnership with LifeSouth. The event was open to the community and saw a strong turnout. Both events were a success, demonstrating the commitment of VFW Post 6073 to serving veterans and the broader community. The Post expressed its gratitude for the community’s support in these endeavors.
Stay tuned for more events!
